{The Ordinary Moments} #4 - Upgrade to Toddlerhood

Why is it that little kids’ development never follows a nice, steady curve? Why can you spend months flapping your hands at them in vain, only for them to decide one day that they'll wave back AND blow kisses?

When the Bean turned one I told myself he was still my little baby. He has other ideas. He seems to have undergone a full-scale upgrade.

The Bean Version Toddler, as of this week, includes the following capabilities:
walking
eating with a fork
hauling bananas out of the fridge and putting them on the table

A couple of months ago DIY with Daddy involved a bit of banging, a good old chew, and generally getting in the way:

Now he demands to be given a screwdriver, and pokes it at a screw over and over:

And then when I gave him some pencils and paper, he did this:

To anyone without kids, this is all perfectly ordinary. Okay so he gets his own banana. So he can scribble with a pencil. Did you know I can do all those things too?

But to me it’s mindblowingly exciting. I’m there with the camera and I’ll be damned if I don’t put those first scribbles on the fridge. Those perfectly ordinary, amazing first scribbles.

That's wonderful! Next time I see the Grandsproglett (Chloe) I'll try introducing her to some colouring pencils (much to the dismay of her parents! Tee he he he...). Great photos and a lovely record of your little man - keep up the good work.

Thanks for the lovely comment! Here's a little tip for when you arm Chloe with some pencils: tape the paper to the table. The WHOLE table. ;-)

We have not actually been able to put the screwdriver back in the tool box!
